The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal
service organization with 1.6 million members. It provides members and their
families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their
communities, families and young people.

As a member of the Knights of Columbus you and your family enjoy many
benefits, including 12 free issues annually of the Columbia magazine, the world's largest
Catholic family magazine, eligibility to join the Knights of Columbus
top-ranked life insurance program, and many more family and personal
benefits.
Members of our Council
not only enjoy the camaraderie of belonging to a group of like-minded
Catholic men, but they gain personal fulfillment by putting something back
into their community by contributing their time and talents to the activities
undertaken by our various service committees. Each man contributes only to
the extent that he has available time.
Our activities are
grouped under the following general categories:
·
Church Activities: assistance to the Parish and the Clergy to enhance
the Liturgical worship of the Parish community, and to provide witness to our
Catholic principles in the world in which we live;
·
Youth Activities – our youth activities seek to influence the
leaders of tomorrow through support of activities like the Annual Basketball
Free Throw competition, the sponsorship and coaching of local Softball /
Soccer Teams; and involvement in applicable school projects;
·
Family Activities help to strengthen Family Life through
family-oriented activities like our annual Pot-Luck Supper; Summer picnic;
and similar activities which involve the family as a unit
·
Community Service activities engage the world around us – such
as our annual Car Raffle in support of the Arthritis Society and local
charities; our Spring Garden Clean-up for the Seniors in the UnionVilla cottages; our staffing of the Unionville
Fishing Festival Booth each July; and our Meal Assistance each month at Good
Shepherd Refuge
·
Council Activities entertain, benefit and strengthen our bonds as
Knight families by providing occasions for our
spouses and families to enjoy each other’s company in a social
environment – such as our Summer BBQ, and our Fall Dinner/Dance.

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in
union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practicing Catholic
is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the
Church. Application blanks are available from any member of the Knights of
Columbus.

Any Third Degree member in good
standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for
membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is
to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a
love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active
membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "Assemblies").
Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and
religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to
the Knights of Columbus.

Our wonderful Spouses and Fiancés act as an informal “Ladies
Auxiliary” in their constant SUPPORT to the men of our Council. They contribute their ideas to the
planning of our activities, and actively help with their execution. They do
this in many ways: by providing help at events, helping with cooking for
events and providing their special talent with setting up and beautifying the
venue for so many of our events.

Under the guidance of Christian Brother Barnabas McDonald
(1865-1929), the first Columbian Squires circle was instituted in 1925.
Membership in the Squires is for Catholic boys between the ages of 12 and 17.
Squires' activities are many, varying from spiritual to active service for
the Church and community. Each circle elects officer members from their own
rank, teaching skills of leadership and responsibility.
[Note: A Columbian Squires Circle has not yet been initiated by St. Justin, Martyr Council]
