· General Meeting of Members : 2nd Tuesday monthly at · Officers Meeting : 4th Thursday each month at Our council sponsors a
large number of council activities throughout the year. Examples of some
events follow; and associated event pictures can be found in our Picture
Gallery. Our annual Community activities include: a Fall Dinner/Dance,
Spring Car Raffle, Spring “Garden Spruce-Up” at Unionvilla Bungalows, “Roses
for Life” Mother’s Day Campaign in support of the Rose of Sharon Agency
for young parents in York Region and managing the event booth at the Annual Unionville Fishing Derby in July. Our Youth-oriented activities include hosting the
local Annual Free Throw Basketball
Competition jointly with We also work with our We have also sponsored junior UMSA Softball Teams and junior
Soccer teams in UMSC (Unionville-Milliken Soccer Club) when our Members were
actively coaching in these Leagues. Our Charitable donations include recipients such
as UnionVilla Seniors Home, the Arthritis
Society, the Evergreen
Hospice, the Markham Stouffville
Hospital, Good Shepherd Refuge, and the annual ShareLife campaign. We also respond to specific
projects/needs at our Local Catholic
Elementary Schools, support Diocesan
Seminarian education at home and in Our Church Support activities include delivery of
parcels for the Annual Parish Caring & Sharing program; an Advent “Light Up for Christ” event
centered around the Parish Nativity Scene, given to the Parish to celebrate
the 10th Anniversary of our Council; and an ongoing “Support Life” project in
conjunction with the CWL and Local Schools. We also distribute Palms on Palm
Sunday at all Masses, and assist other Parish organizations whenever
appropriate. In 2003 we initiated
our “March is Baby Month”
project to gather food and clothing for infants and young children from our
Parish Community. Items are distributed through Homes and Agencies (like Rose
of Sharon, Nazareth House, Rosalie Hall, etc) to young Mothers in the Members of our Council
are very active in our Community and within our Parish life. They serve as
Ministers of Hospitality, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist,
as well as in many Parish activities and organizations. Our Family-oriented
activities include an annual Pot Luck Dinner and Movie night,
Family Outings to Skydome for Baseball evenings, and a June Dinner for
Members and Spouses to celebrate the end of the Fraternal Year, and a Family
Skating Party in late December to end the Calendar year!. |
