THE KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS

The Knights of Columbus was founded by Father Michael McGivney of New Haven, Connecticut, in 1882, shortly after the end of the Civil War. Father McGivney was the Parish Priest in an area of poor Catholic immigrants who were in need of community support. He had a great concern for the physical welfare of youth and families and for their spiritual well being. To assist widows and families he created an insurance program to provide financial assistance for those who suffered the loss of their main wage-earner.

OUR COUNCIL

We are a Catholic Fraternal organization and our Council (St. Justin, Martyr) is dedicated to carrying out the principles established by Father McGivney as outlined in this pamphlet.

Our Council’s 10th Anniversary will be celebrated in February 2006. We have grown to 100+ active members in the past 10 years and are administered by 16 Officers led by our Grand Knight. All Officers are elected on an annual basis. Two meetings are held monthly including one by the Officers who report monthly to the general meeting. We are proud of our achievements to date and look forward to an ongoing expansion of our Activities in coming years.

Our objectives are to raise funds to support a number of Charities and to support our Families, Church and Community through various activities. These activities are outlined in the following pages. Additional information can be accessed from our Council Web site at www.stjustin.com/koc .
